Ciprofloxacin belongs to the fluoroquinolone class of antibiotics. It is used to treat bacterial infections. This antibiotic may also be used to prevent or treat certain types of infections, such as anthrax, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, and infections of the lungs, ears, urinary tract, skin, and soft tissues. The dosage and duration of treatment for these conditions may vary depending on the type of infection. The most common side effects of Ciprofloxacin include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and skin rashes. If you experience any severe or persistent side effects, contact your doctor immediately.

Taking Cipro has been shown to impact your tendons (cords attaching bone to your muscles). It can increase your risk of developing tendonitis or a tendon rupture, especially if you’re over 60, taking steroid medications, or have a history of tendon problems.
